Sri Lankan Graphite
Sri Lanka is world’s major producer of vein graphite. It is a special type of graphite that is well known for its high purity and large, well-defined crystal structure. Vein graphite is particularly well suited for the extraction of graphene, a material composed of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice, similar to a honeycomb structure. Graphene has several unique properties that make it attractive for a wide range of applications.
High conductivity : Excellent conductor of electricity and heat. Making it useful in electronics, sensors and energy storage.
High strength : One of the strongest materials known, with tensile strength about 300 times greater than steel. Makes it useful in nanocomposites and structural materials.
Having a reliable and consistent supply of vein graphite, Sri Lanka has the competitive advantage of producing the highest quality graphene with lower cost of production making it more economically viable to produce it in a commercial scale. High quality starting material leads to the production of high quality graphene with minimal defects
